I don't know about you but I've found as I get older I seem to have lost the ability to relax and am always busy doing something.

My family have told me I must have a "rest" but I find it difficult. Even if I do just sit in a chair my mind doesn't switch off. There are so many things I feel I must "do".

However, this past week I have had a complete break from the computer and my normal day/night "job" and have spent it on a caravan holiday. Actually it was more of an educational trip as we were searching for further educational facilities for our autistic son when he leaves school.

Hopefully it was successful. Time will tell.

The break did me good and I came back feeling refreshed despite our caravan site being at the end of the runway for Harrier and Tornado jets. I have to say they make an impressive sight flying over at 200 feet – noisy but impressive!

However, when I turned on the computer I was faced with so many e-mails my in-box couldn't hold any more. My sense of well being soon disappeared.

Spam is a big issue these days and often it's hard to know which e-mails to read and which to ignore. The subject line is a big deciding factor or a recognisable sender's address.

Sometimes, however, I do things and can't explain why. This is one e-mail I read without really knowing what drew me to it and I think someone, somewhere is trying to tell me something.

Maybe it's a wake up call and I need to listen. Life is too short and precious to waste.

According to Noah Stern, the new CEO of FDJ French Dressing Inc, the partners plan to capitalize on the "very high levels of consumer brand recognition of and loyalty to the French Dressing brand" as well as the company's extensive distribution system which consists of well over 2,000 independent and specialty boutique retailers across Canada and the U.S.A.

Ayal Twik, Vice-President of Business Development at Groupe Corwik and now Vice-President of FDJ French Dressing Inc. agrees, calling it an iconic brand in North America with an amazing reputation among both retailers and customers.

After a highly successful run from the 1970's through to only a few years ago, FDJ Monde Inc veered off course from its specialized focus on denim, to expand their product line into coordinated ladies sportswear.

This misplaced strategy, combined with the struggling economy south of the border is what Len Miller, former President of FDJ Monde, attributes as the main reasons for his former company's recent financial struggles.

Miller, who briefly left the company because of illness and a short-lived retirement, has been hired by the new partners as the president of FDJ French Dressing Inc to continue to oversee the sales growth of the French Dressing brand in North America.

His late uncle David Mindlin founded the predecessor to FDJ Monde Inc in 1908, then known as the Keystone Overall & Pants Manufacturing Ltd.

Miller and the partners are excited by the aggressive marketing campaign that will re-launch the brand in time for the Spring 2009 fashion season.

The strategy will be planned and executed with the help of Glen Eisenberg, president of Precision, the Montreal marketing and communications firm.

The consortium has earmarked a significant budget (millions of dollars) to marketing the core values of the French Dressing Jeans brand - what Stern calls "the company's four pillars of success: fit, quality, customer service and a commitment to the independent/specialty store market, with an "independents first" policy."

In addition to fit and quality, servicing the independent specialty retailer is paramount to the success of the brand. When you buy a pair of jeans there is inevitably something that doesn't work out about them. For me it is often the ankle and the heel. Jeans tend to fit me fairly well throughout but in those two areas I still have a hard time finding a pair that fit perfectly. This often means that I will be forced to customize these jeans to work for me. I have three major pairs of shoes that I wear with jeans my converse chucks, black dress loafers and flip flops. Best known for his striking, controversial - sometimes, outrageous collection - Jean-Paul Gaultier (born April 24, 1952 in Arcueil, France) never received formal education as a designer. He started creating sketches at a young age and was designing clothes for his mother and grandmother by age 13. At 17, he sent the sketches to renowned couture stylists including Pierre Cardin. His talents impressed Cardin who then hired him as an assistant.

Gaultier spent the next two years working for Cardin before he became a designer for Jacques Estrel and later on, for the House of Patou in Paris where he worked for three years. In 1976, French fashion magazine Mode Internationale featured a number of Gaultier's sketches which received favorable reviews by designers all over the world. That same year he launched his own designer label under Mayagor, while engaging in freelance RTW furs, swimsuits and leather.

Since 1981, Gaultier has been known to produce avant-garden designs, which bore him the name enfant terrible, or the bad boy of French fashion. His style is mainly focused on street wear and popular culture. A popular example would be the conical bra that he designed for Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour. Kilts are also a significant part of his menswear collection, even using them himself on TV events and shows where he acts as presenter, such as Eurotrash. Similarly, his choice of models remains unconventional - from older men and plus-size women to pierced and tattoo-ridden youngsters. Occasionally, he toys with gender roles for exhibitions.

In 1987, Gaultier was awarded French designer of the year. Patou's involvement in the evolution of sportswear is extensive, its influence, rather obvious. Clothes were made to be beautiful yet comfortable, functional and simple, with accents limited to seam linings and embroideries, as exemplified by his creation of the cardigan. He developed a fabric for swimwear that resists shrinkage and is non-colorfast. He also invented the knitted swimsuit and tennis skirt. His collection was publicized by famous names such as Wimbledon tennis star Suzanne Lenglen and American aviator Ruth Elder. Patou proved to be a pioneer in ways more than one. In the 1920s, he invented designer ties made from women's dress and the famous cubist sweaters. Shepherd was born in Chicago on July 26, 1921 and divided his youth between
Chicago's south side and Hammond, Indiana. In the years when Dwight D.
Eisenhower was the United States President, Shepherd was the radical voice of
pop culture in the best sense of the word. But in the purest sense Jean
Shepherd was a humorist, in the classic comic tradition taken from the adages
that “truth is often found in humor” and also that “pain is often found in
truth“.

Jean Shepherd was a very popular cult radio and cabaret personality in New York
during the 1950’s and 1960’s. One thing that makes Shepherd’s appeal so
universal is the fact that his stories ring true and nostalgic for listener
whether or not they lived in the era he usually wrote and spoke about.

A renowned PBS and talk radio personality, Shepherd was responsible for
creating many nostalgic humorous pieces of Americana storytelling, which later
led to his being compared to the likes of Garrison Keilor. Earlier, from

There are also a few extra touches to jeans that refer to a purpose the jean actually serves. A carpenter jean is an old term for a loose fitting jean with a hammer loop on one side and two side pockets. There is also a utility jean that is loose fitting and has reinforced fabric on the knees.

Jean Patou - Created The First Designer Tie

The French designer Jean Patou was born on 1887 in Normandy, France. His first job was in a small dressmaking shop, Parry, before World War I. He produced his first collection in 1914. In 1919, after serving as Captain of Zouaves during the war, he returned to the fashion industry and opened his own couture house.

Patou's involvement in the evolution of sportswear is extensive, its influence, rather obvious. Clothes were made to be beautiful yet comfortable, functional and simple, with accents limited to seam linings and embroideries, as exemplified by his creation of the cardigan. He developed a fabric for swimwear that resists shrinkage and is non-colorfast. He also invented the knitted swimsuit and tennis skirt. His collection was publicized by famous names such as Wimbledon tennis star Suzanne Lenglen and American aviator Ruth Elder. Women of the 1920s started to imitate this sporty look even if they did not engage in sports.

Patou's vision of the ultimate sportswear collection was realized when he opened Le Coin des Sports, a boutique in Paris that catered to all sorts of sportswear, including accessories. He extended these shops to Deauville and Biarritz, both popular resort areas to travelers.

Patou proved to be a pioneer in ways more than one. In the 1920s, he invented designer ties made from women's dress and the famous cubist sweaters. He is accounted for the first designer label that he had sewn to his designs. He was able to produce exclusive colors through a special dyeing method so as to eradicate competitor replicas. In 1929, he raised the waistline of the skirt and brought it back to its natural hemline - a move that Chanel followed through quickly.

He traveled to the United States in 1924 where he hired six American models and brought them to France to work as mannequins. The American silhouette became a point of emulation for French women and therefore helped boost Patou's sales in addition to the extra profit that scarves, hats and accessories brought to him. It also paved the way for his fame in the American community, which was its target market, aside from a few wealthy French clients.

The House of Patou was created in 1925. It featured his perfume collection, the one element that survived it during the Great Depression when the fashion business crashed. It was in 1935, at the peak of the Depression, that the fragrance Joy was designed by Henri Almeras for Patou's former clients. The floral scent of Joy would create an indelible imprint in the fashion industry decades later.

In 1936, Patou died. His sister, Madeleine and her husband, Raymond Barbas took over the House of Patou so that it remains in family hands until now. By 1982, Parfums Patou was built in London, Milan, Geneva, Australia and Hong Kong. The year 1998 saw the rise of Jean Patou into the forefront of the fragrance industry. Aside from its own line of perfumes, the company was also made a distributor of Hubigant's Quelques Fleurs, and the developer/seller of Yohji Yamamoto's perfumes. However, it is still Joy, the world's most costly fragrance that Patou is best known for. Joy perfume gained recognition as the "Scent of the Century" in UK's Fifi Awards in 2000, outweighing long-time opponent, Chanel No.5. Following the success of Joy, the company introduced fragrances Lacoste and Nacre in 2000 and 2001, respectively.
